Lens Thickness

Comfort and wearability are key when it comes to choosing the right glasses for you. Because of this, it’s important that you choose a lens thickness you’re happy to wear for long periods. With technology advancing at a rapid rate in the eyewear industry, you no longer have to worry about thick and heavy lenses that cause discomfort. Here at 1001 Optical, we’ve got various thicknesses to choose from, so we’re sure you’ll find something that perfectly suited to you.

Standard Lens (1.5 Index)

This lens thickness is the default choice for our glasses, and come free with our frames. They’re a simple yet effective choice if you’re looking for an affordable option. They are, however, a bit thicker than other options, especially if your prescription is high.

Mid Index Lens (between 1.5 & 1.6)

These lenses are a compromise between performance and affordability; being slightly thinner than the standard lens, yet not as thin as the higher index options. If you have a medium prescription or want an option that offers the best of both worlds, then this might be a good choice of lens thickness for you.

High Index Lens (1.6 +)

These lenses are extremely thin and lightweight (the higher the number, the thinner they are) and allow you to wear your favourite frames in perfect comfort and style. These materials offer superior optical quality and wearability, but are generally more expensive as a result.

Essentially; the higher your prescription, the more it becomes worth the extra price to invest in thinner, high index lenses. If you have a low prescription, high index options may not be necessary from a vision perspective; although if you’re willing to spend the extra money for the comfort and style benefits they still make an attractive option. Choose your desired lens thickness on the website, or come along to your Local Store in NSW and VIC and get expert advice from our staff - we’ll be happy to match you up with the perfect option.
